Chessboxing: The Ultimate Test of Mind and Body
Brains and brawn come together in the sport of chessboxing. Inspired by a French comic where the characters must fight, then play chess, chessboxing started as an art project and homage, but soon the sport gained a life of its own. Contenders must play chess for three minutes, then immediately box for another three minutes. Sure, it’s a bit of a novelty—but once you see the athletes’ advanced chess skills and intense fighting chops, you might become a believer, too. We went to the chessboxing championships in Berlin to see this hybrid sport for ourselves.
