This Silver Dress Captured Hearts At New York Fashion Week
Red carpet fixture Marchesa's beaded silver dress is the dress of the day
The Marchesa runway is always a reliable preview for the future award show red carpets, and this season’s was no exception. While the entire opulent collection inspired admiration in sartorialists, Vocativ analysis of social media postings from Wednesday at New York Fashion Week revealed that one particular dress, worn by Belgian model Yumi Lambert, caught the eyes of social media users, who blessed it with more than 2,000 likes on the Insta Haute Couture Instagram account.
Though not technically haute couture (for that, a dress must meet certain French legal definitions, not unlike those that also protect champagne production), the shimmering, floor-length dress was an achievement of vision and design. Though this one dress stood out, the rest of the collection was fit for royalty, both Hollywood and otherwise, as the designer showed princess-style ballgowns bursting with chiffon, embroidery, and a dizzying amount of hand beading. The collection’s rich and varied color palette included everything from subtle nudes to blazing scarlet, gunmetal silver, and even Pantone’s much-lauded rose quartz, all of which made for a collection that remained visually stunning, while boasting both opulence and wearability for a very specific, very special kind of event.
