An Ethereal White Dress Wows Crowds At New York Fashion Week
The lovely creation even featured alpaca leather
Peruvian designer Jorge Salinas looked to his homeland to inspire his fall 2016 ready-to-wear collection at New York Fashion Week, peppering the collection with Andean materials like alpaca leather. Those rustic, high altitude influences however translated into a most urbane collection, as Salinas updated striped Peruvian peasant skirts with sumptuous black silk and fur trim. Indeed, most of the collection came in black, casting a chic evening feel over the runway.
But by analyzing thousands of Instagram posts from New York Fashion Week, Vocativ found it was one of Salinas’ few white dresses that captured users’ attention. The tiered dress came with a sheer top, cropped sleeves, and layers upon layers of flowing white silk skirting, all overplayed on top of loose trousers. Salinas completed the look with fingerless white biker gloves and a shaggy alpaca wool scarf, proving that with the right eye, the traditional materials used to keep warm in the Peruvian mountains can look right at home in the big city.
