Pro-ISIS Propaganda Group Claims Islamic State Behind San Bernardino Massacre
A media group affiliated with ISIS published a statement claiming Tashfeen Malik and Syed Farook, the attackers in San Bernardino, as ISIS fighters
An ISIS affiliated media group has published an unofficial claim of responsibility for the San Bernardino massacre in which a married couple killed 14 people and wounded another 2 at a holiday party.
“Two supporters of the Islamic State killed and injured tens of Americans in an attack in San Bernardino in the state of California,” says the statement, which was distributed Friday by the Amaq News Agency. Vocativ deep web analysts discovered the post on forums used by ISIS to share information.
“This attack happened only a few days after American officials said that the Unites States is far away from ‘terror attacks,'” the statement continues.
In the immediate aftermath of the mass shooting, Vocativ revealed ISIS supporters were celebrating the massacre online even before the manhunt for Malik and her husband Syed Farook had ended. More celebrations were posted Friday after the revelation of the pledge of allegiance, with ISIS supporters reacting to the news to say they hoped God would accept the martyrdom of the couple.
Earlier Friday, officials revealed that Tashfeen Malik, who along with her husband carried out the massacre, had pledged allegiance to ISIS in a statement posted to Facebook the day of the attack.
