Old Man ISIS: Elderly Recruit Used As Poster Child To Lure Volunteers
ISIS posted images of a bearded, old man, believed to be in his 80s, as latest attempt to recruit young fighters
The latest attempt by ISIS to recruit fighters to the extremist organization is a propaganda campaign featuring images of a gun-toting, bearded old man who the terrorists say volunteered to join their ranks in eastern Syria.
ISIS supporters have been sharing the images on the group’s forums and social media accounts. He is pictured in the ranks of fighters said to be in Deir ez Zour in eastern Syria, purportedly during an operation against Syrian government forces in the area. The group is using images of the old man, believed to be in his 80s, to goad younger fighters to volunteer, yet another example of the propaganda machine ISIS has established to pull in potential citizens and recruits.
“When will you join, young Muslims?” one of the propoganda posts asks alongside the image of the elderly man, who was not identified by name. ISIS claims he migrated from Turkistan in Central Asia to Syria.
