10 Things You Could Have Done While Germany Scored 5 Goals

Germany just thrashed host country Brazil in the World Cup in a historic 7-1 semifinal drubbing. In the first half, they managed to score five goals in just 29 minutes. That is so many goals! In such a short amount of time! Brazil is very sad right now.

To help you understand exactly how long (or short) 29 minutes is, here are a few activities you could accomplish in that amount of time. (Note: This doesn’t represent how long 29 minutes and five goals feels if you’re a Brazilian soccer fan—that’s a different list.)

    • Get through 8 percent of a flight from NYC to L.A. (5 hours, 45 minutes)
    • Re-enact the longest tennis rally in professional tennis history (643 shots, 29 minutes, between Vicki Nelson and Jean Hepner, in the 1984 Virginia Slims championship)
    • Receive LASIK eye surgery 3 times (~10 minutes)
    • Get 31.6 bikini waxes (at the world record bikini-waxing pace of 1.09/min)
    • Listen 0.62 of the way through Meat Loaf’s Bat Out Of Hell album (46 minutes, 33 seconds)
    • Watch 0.12 percent of the entirety of Doctor Who (372 hours, 43 minutes and 54 seconds)
    • Do Deborah’s 29-minute beginner’s workout from 1988
    • Joey Chestnut could consume 176.9 hot dogs (he ate 61 hot dogs in 10 minutes last weekend)
    • Buy one Toyota from King’s Toyota in Cincinnati (is that even possible?)

  • Kenya’s Geoffrey Mutai could run nearly one quarter of a marathon (6.18 miles) in 29 minutes (his record is 2 hours, 3 minutes)
