Most People Don’t Know How To Read Sunscreen Labels

Only 43 percent of Americans understand what sunscreen labels mean, according to a new study published in JAMA Dermatology. And that’s disturbing, because manufacturers pack a lot of crucial information onto those cryptic labels—from SPF (or sun protection factor) to information about preventing early skin aging. With rates of skin cancer on the rise, especially among beach-goers and tanning enthusiasts, it’s more important than ever that we both put on sunscreen and figure out how to read the darn labels.
