NASA Launches Rocket From An Airplane

Dec 15, 2016 at 2:17 PM ET

After two false starts this week, NASA has successfully launched the Cyclone Global Navigation Satellite System (CYGNSS) satellites. The air to orbit launch was not just visually impressive, but also scientifically important. The CYGNSS satellites will monitor climate phenomenon like hurricanes and tropical storms, which is handy information to have when you live on, say, Earth. As climate change increases the power and frequency of extreme weather, it’s good to know that the US government is continuing to monitor and learn about our planet. For now.
