Congratulations to Gov. Mike Pence who somehow won the vice presidential debate before it had even started.

More than an hour and a half before the debate kicked off in Virginia, the GOP got a little ahead of itself by publishing a post on their official website that read:

“Americans from all across the country tuned in to watch the one and only Vice Presidential debate. During the debate we helped fact check and monitor the conversation in real time @GOP. The consensus was clear after the dust settled, Mike Pence was the clear winner of the debate.”

The post was published before 7:30 p.m. ET, particularly remarkable because the debate itself doesn’t begin until 9:00 p.m. ET. To make matters worse, the GOP also ran other posts targeting Hillary Clinton’s VP candidate and the debate moderator, including one titled: “5 Questions Tim Kaine was NOT Asked.”

Predictably, the reaction on Twitter was immediate.

The Clinton campaign was also quick to respond.

Both articles now lead to a 404 page that takes a jab at Hillary. While these pieces were likely embargoed for after the debate, it highlights some of the party’s technical shortcomings. The Trump digital campaign has already featured some blunders, like using footage from Morocco to depict the “U.S.-Mexico border” and having foreign models on his veterans site.

Debate night is off a weird and furious start!
