What better way to mark World Emoji Day, the make-believe holiday that falls on July 17, than by observing the true purpose of all those adorable little icons: they allow us to be creative little pervs. In an honor of the celebration, Pornhub, tube site and purveyor of smutty data-hooks for any and all holidays and current events, has crunched the numbers on the top emojis and emoticons used by their viewers.

In the past two years, Pornhub visitors have left more than 12 million comments on videos and photos, and 1.5 million of those contained an emoticon or emoji, according to data provided exclusively to Vocativ.

Let’s start where it all began: emoticons, the text-based precursors to emojis. Not too surprisingly, the most-used emoticon on Pornhub is the suggestive wink: viewers have used the “;)” more than 420,000 times (who or what they are winking at, exactly, is unclear). Next most popular is the smiley face, with 383,000 uses. Then comes the flirty tongue emoticon: :P. In fourth place is what might be described in this context as the “whoa, boobs are cool” face: :D. And, finally, it seems the 44,000 viewers who used the “:/” weren’t so happy with their porn-watching experience. Other notable mentions include: “xp,” “:3,” “:*” and “:O.”

These don’t technically count as emoticons, but “8==D,” and variations like “8–D” and “8-D,” were used in 3,000 comments. Less popular was “(o)(o),” and variations like “( . )( . )” and “( o Y o ),” which were used 2,000 times. Apparently, Pornhub viewers prefer to express themselves with faces instead of genitals.

Earlier this year, Pornhub launched a service in which viewers text one of 50 different emojis and receive back a link to a related porn clip. Instead of analyzing emoticons used on the site, they looked at the more than 500,000 texts they’ve received from visitors.

Almost 20 percent of these texts have featured the video camera emoji, which is linked to amateur videos. Next up is the dancing lady emoji, which returns “Latina” porn. (Suffice it to say, some of these connections—like much of mainstream porn—are culturally insensitive or politically incorrect: the “interracial” category is linked to the yin-yang emoji, which is the sixth most popular emoji.) Next most popular were the cherry, peach, and eggplant, which link to “small tits,” “big ass,” and, “big dick,” respectively.

It’s a reminder, as if any of us needed one, that all those icons are cute little double entendres just waiting to happen.
