ISIS Supporters Wish Each Other A “Happy 9/11”
The Islamic State marks the anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks by sharing disturbing and menacing images
ISIS and its supporters are posting hundreds of troubling tweets “wishing Americans a happy 9/11” on the eve of the 14th anniversary of the terror attacks that killed nearly 3,000 people and set the course for the U.S.-led global war on terror. The tweets include memes insulting President Obama, the World Trade Center’s Twin Towers on fire, and a cake, although that image could be traced back to 2013. Many of the users are also tweeting with the hashtag #AmericaUnderHacks as a warning to American websites of a possible disruption in the hours leading up to the anniversary, however cyber hacks have yet to be reported.
Twitter has tried to suspend thousands of ISIS-affiliated accounts this year, but it hasn’t dissuaded the jihadist group from promoting its messages across the social medium.
