Stray dogs in this Indian township took on a startling hue by turning blue.

A detergent factory allegedly dumped untreated blue dye and powder into the nearby Kasadi River. Stray dogs often wade through and drink from the river.

Photos and videos of the strays have gone viral, eliciting anger from animal rights groups.

While the long-term effects are unknown, local media claims the company that makes the detergent could get shut down by the region’s pollution control board. Activists say other animals, like birds and reptiles, are also at risk.
