Estakio Beltran might not stand a chance of capturing the congressional seat in eastern Washington’s rural, Republican-leaning 4th district. But the Democratic hopeful can already claim victory for shooting the best campaign ad of the year so far.
In the 30-second video released this week, the 31-year-old Hispanic candidate takes aim at his critics by brandishing a shotgun, blowing away an elephant piñata and then riding off toward Washington, D.C., on a donkey.
“They say I can’t win in this district,” Beltran says as he trains his gun at the GOP mascot. “But what happens to an elephant that stands around doing nothing for too long?”
Beltran pulls the trigger. The elephant takes a slug to the tuchus.
“My name’s Estakio Beltran,” he says as he loads another round into the chamber. “And I approved this message.” We imagine many more will, too.
