“Al-Qaeda Is Over”: ISIS Celebrates The Death Of AQAP Leader

ISIS extremists are taunting al-Qaeda and the latest blow to its rival terror organization

ISIS extremists are gloating over the death of al-Qaeda’s second-in-command, flooding online forums with taunting messages since Nasir al-Wahishi was revealed to have been killed by a U.S. drone strike in Yemen.

“Al-Qaeda is over,” a prominent ISIS adherent declared in an ISIS web forum early this morning.

Another ISIS supporter mocked al-Qaeda in Arabic. “Al-Qaeda was over after the killing of the Imam Osama Bin Laden. No one remained there but dogs, hyenas and (a) few pigs,” the supporter wrote.

Al-Wahishi was formerly an associate of bin Laden and led the group that claimed responsibility for the deadly January attack on the French newspaper Charlie Hebdo. He is the sixth major AQAP leader killed this year in suspected U.S. bombings.

His death marks the biggest blow to al-Qaeda since Osama bin Laden was killed. ISIS and al-Qaeda have been openly battling since ISIS split from al-Qaeda in February last year. ISIS and al-Qaeda’s branch in Syria, the Nusra Front, are fighting each other for territory and the two terror groups remain competitors on a global scale.

One ISIS supporter said in an online forum that Al-Qaeda has become one of its biggest obstacles. “They block our expansion in Syria, Yemen and Chechnya,” the user wrote, adding that al-Qaeda died with the death of bin Laden.

Al-Wahishi led AQAP, al-Qaeda’s Yemeni affiliate, which announced his death Tuesday in a video online. Despite the blow, the group threatened to continue the war against America and its allies in the region. The affiliate said al-Wahishi’s deputy, Qassim al-Raymi, will replace him.

Vocativ reported earlier this week that Al-Qaeda and ISIS supporters panicked amid the slew of recent deadly attacks against AQAP leaders, questioning whether the terrorist network could provide security for its forces.

I am greeting the death of Wuhayshi and with the same for Zawahiri (Al-Qaeda leader), al-Joulani (Al-Qaeda’s branch in Syria leader), al-Muhaysani and Harayri  (officials in Al-Qaeda’s branch in Syria) and all the leaders of the new al-Qaeda. It confirms that the group is infiltrated by spies and intelligence agencies are leading it
