Chinese And Indian Troops Brawl At The Border
Chinese and Indian troops were throwing punches and stones in the western Himalayas near a disputed border last week.
Soldiers on both sides were injured on Aug. 15, but no bullets were fired.
Tensions have been rising between the world’s two most populous countries due to a Chinese-built road to Bhutan, which is an ally to India.
China is working hard to be the most influential country in Asia, but India isn’t ready to let it have the top spot. At the same time, both countries have nuclear weapons, so there’s a big incentive to not escalate the situation.
There is, however, precedent for bad blood. China defeated India in a war over another Himalayan border dispute in 1962.
