Iran’s Newest Sport Is Women’s Arm Wrestling
Although arm wrestling was traditionally depicted as a pastime for men, female competitions have taken off in Iran.
With the support of the government, Iranian women’s arm wrestling competitions were created in 2013. The sporting matches continue to gain popularity, where almost 250 women competed in the last championship.
According to the official rules, participants need to beat their rival twice – once with their left hand and once with their right – before advancing to the next round.
Iran is also focused on building a national arm wrestling team to compete internationally this year.
