In China’s largest-ever demolition, it took 2.5 tons of explosives and 75,000 detonating fuses to clear more than a million square feet of outdated apartment buildings.

Zhengzhou is one of China’s largest industrial hubs, and hundreds of affordable housing structures were constructed during a building boom in the 1980s and 1990s.

Now, the city is trying to rebrand by rebuilding. New residential buildings and commercial centers will emerge from the rubble to give the city a new look and its 9.5 million residents a new future.

As the saying goes, gotta break some to make some.
