Spiders just became more horrifying…somehow.

A new study from the University of Basel shows that the crawlers may eat up to 882 million tons of food per year. By comparison, humans consume an estimated 440 million tons of meat and fish per year. The over 45,000 different species of spiders mainly chow down on insects and other pests, which actually helps protect trees and plants. Maybe the benefit to the environment is worth you being creeped out.
