Paul Ryan’s Super White Selfie Earns Him An Internet Roast

Here are some of the cleverest ways people called out the shortage of people of color

The Republican Convention is barely underway, but one of its most prominent figures already made himself a target for a good ol’ fashioned internet roast. On Sunday, House leader Paul Ryan broke out a selfie stick and Instagrammed a photo with this year’s crop of Capitol Hill interns with the caption “I think this sets a record for the most number of #CapitolHill interns in a single selfie.”

But what’s most striking here isn’t the sheer number of cheap laborers; rather, it’s the overwhelming whiteness of the group. An extreme lack of melanin might not be a shock when it comes to the GOP, it was refreshing to see the swiftness with which people called Ryan out.

People immediately made some hilariously illuminating comparisons. Juxtaposing it with the photo from the end of “The Shining” was a popular way to go:

While all the witty comments and Photoshop are fun, when it comes to delivering the sickest burn to Ryan nothing can top this gem:
