Mother’s Day is usually a time for family brunches and thoughtful greeting cards. But underneath its veneer of wholesome family fun, the Hallmark holiday also marks a time in which more porn viewers engage in their motherly fetishes.

Last year, PornHub, the largest pornography site in the world, reported a spike in searches for mom porn on Mother’s Day, which falls the first Sunday of every May. The adult tube site said last year that searches containing “MILF” or simply “mom” jumped by 190 percent on May 10—a huge increase considering how popular these search terms already are. However, this year, “step mom” is outperforming both “MILF” and “mom” in terms of search volume (which we guess is good news).

“Many holidays such as Thanksgiving and Easter will cause related searches to increase, and MILF’s Day is no exception,” PornHub writes, using their preferred rebranding of the popular holiday.

According to PornHub’s global survey, Greece recorded the most searches containing “MILF” or “mom,” followed by European neighbors Romania, Sweden, the Netherlands, Germany, Poland and Ireland. Australia, Canada and the United States are also among the top mom-miring countries.

In the U.S., mom-porn viewing habits vary greatly state-to-state. “Congratulations Iowa—you’re the biggest mom loving state, followed by Vermont, West Virginia, Nebraska and Texas,” writes PornHub, adding that the states with the lowest proportion of mom-related searches include Alaska, Hawaii, Delaware, Maryland and Nevada.

PornHub users aged 18-24 are 23 percent more likely to search for “step mom” compared to other age groups. However, this group is 14 percent less likely to plug in a search for “MILF.” In fact, MILF appreciation grows as users get older: those aged 55 to 64 are 27 percent more likely to look for “MILF” porn, and 12 percent less likely to search for “step mom” compared to other age groups. “Proportionately, men are 80 percent more likely to search for ‘MILF’ and 32 percent more likely to search for ‘step mom’ compared to their female counterparts,” says PornHub.

While Mother’s Day may represent a peak for mom porn interest, it is by no means a niche market. Adult entertainment and ecommerce site GameLink.com says that such porn has demonstrated a notable “staying power” within the industry.

“Whether it’s the incredibly talented MILF performers, or the savvy marketing strategy of today’s adult studios, ‘Mother I’d Like to Fuck’ movies are as popular as ever, if not more so,” said Jeff Dillon, vice president of business development for eLine management company, whose clients include GameLink.com, in a statement. “It’s safe to say the adult industry will be celebrating Mother’s Day for more than one reason this year and next!”

Dillon added that his company saw a 400 percent increase in MILF porn sales between 1998 and 2000. He attributes this boost to the popularity of the movie “American Pie,” the 1999 sex comedy that brought MILFs to the mainstream. “The numbers have continued to grow over the years as evidenced by the huge number of searches on our website for MILF stars and their movies.”

For both PornHub and GameLink, porn star Lisa Ann—who has notably actually had a child—represents the most successful manifestation of the mom porn movement. PornHub says that she is the actress most often searched with the phrases “MILF” or “mom,” while GameLink attributes part of MILF porn’s 357 percent growth between 2007 and 2009 to her parody of former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin in “Who’s Nailin’ Paylin?”
