Residents of America’s first majority Muslim town are blasting Donald Trump after he proposed an outright ban on members of the religion on Monday.

Hamtramck, Michigan has about 22,000 residents, just over 50 percent of whom are Muslim and the town recently elected a mostly Muslim city council. The morning after Trump’s incendiary comments, Vocativ used our technology to analyze social media posts from Hamtranck, which is a city inside the larger Detroit area. In short: everyone is outraged.

Saad Almasmari, who helped the city council become Muslim-majority when he was one of three new council members elected in November, posted on Facebook shortly after Trump’s statement: “Mr.Trump, just like small rock inside empty bottle, makes a lot noise when you shake it.”

Even the city’s Catholic mayor, Karen Majewski, got in on the action, sharing a Tweet on her Facebook page which read: “Basically, Trump is what would happen if the comment section became a human and ran for president.”

Residents of Detroit and the nearby town of Dearborn, which also has a large Muslim population, joined in the fury.
