Paris Terror Attacks: Social Videos Capture Explosions and Mayhem
Witnesses recorded on-the-ground video as multiple attacks rocked Paris late Friday
The first images of the deadly, coordinated explosions and shootings that rocked Paris late Friday came from witnesses broadcasting the violence from the ground via live streaming and video apps.
Several Periscope feeds streamed the attacks as they unfolded about 4 p.m. ET on Friday. One video captured prolonged bursts of gunfire. Another 15-minute Periscope by Twitter user Stephane Hannache appeared to record the sounds of gunshots and yelling in an unknown location in Paris. The Periscope app became unavailable during various points of the violence but returned as the night went on.
Vines also captured the sound of gunfire as Germany faced-off against France in an international friendly soccer match at the Stade de France. Another video showed crowds gathering on the soccer pitch.
Periscope stated on Twitter: “We’re experiencing intermittent service issues. Some users may be unable to load their broadcast feeds. Sorry and we’re working on it!” They later added: “Service is much improved, but still with intermittent slowness. Working really hard to make sure it’s fully restored ASAP.”
