Meet The Children of the NRA

As part of our collaboration with MSNBC, Vocativ went to the 2014 NRA Convention in Indianapolis. But in a sea of about 75,000 NRA members, it wasn’t their guns that stood out—it was their kids.

The United States has one of the highest rates of gun ownership in the world, so it’s no wonder that the annual NRA  convention often becomes a family affair. Vocativ went to this year’s convention and met some children who are already young gun enthusiasts. There was even a special contest just for kids where the prize was, of course, a gun. Some young children told us about their gun safety courses, while their parents talked about how going to shooting range is a bonding experience. We got to speak to a lot of people, but some security guards seemed a little skeptical of our presence.
